Hi,

My name is Bob Maddison and I am an artist and photographer living with my wife Elizabeth in the small village of Allenheads in the Northern Pennines of the United Kingdom. In 1985 I opened a studio in the village and have worked and sold my paintings and photographs from there ever since. Allenheads is one of the highest villages in England and is a great place to live and work.

I have one daughter and one son who have both been through the university system and have now left home.

Although drawing and painting were my first interest I became interested in photography in 1962 when I became “bagman” to a local photographer. Setting up his gear, making sure that he always had a camera ready if things went wrong at weddings, helping in the darkroom etc. These were happy days and a great learning opportunity. I was later able to use the knowledge that I had learned from this professional to start a part time wedding photography business which helped to pay my way through art college.

Times have changed and photography isn’t thought of in isolation. It is now just another technique in the artists armoury. I have always been of the opinion that if you have an idea you will find the best technique to communicate your idea, whether it is through drawing, painting, sculpture or photography.
